After the Stories

What We Found Along the Way

I got your book out of my mailbox at 3:30 - started reading at 4. It is now 6, and I just closed the book. It was fabulous! It made me laugh and cry. Your journey through all the historical places carried me to places I’ll never see, but now would like to go. Your viewpoint was incredibly poignant for places like the plantation, the Edmund Pettus Bridge, Memphis, the Legacy Museum, and the Lynching Museum. I could feel your pain.

~ Nancy

Girl, I read it all in one sitting. Couldn’t put it down. You and your mom did a Fantastic Job! Laughed until my side hurt several times.

~ Selma

I finished the book a couple of days after I bought it. I really loved it. Had my interest the entire time

Great Job.

~ Bonnie

I haven't gotten through the book completely yet... However, I do feel like you and your mom... have more to offer to folks.

I feel you in it. All of your quirks. I think the most important thing is that you stayed true to yourself.

~ Deion

I'm heading to New Orleans to visit the Myrtles Plantation. lol..

The book reminds me of what me and my mom are doing now that I've moved back with her.

~ Manuel

Received my book, and the first page I turned to was page 10, “Satan’s Lair”. Your description reminded me of the time I visited the Biltmore on a field trip with my daughter. Never again. I could feel the souls of my ancestors tortured and enslaved in that place. I'm looking forward to reading more.

~ Tayon

I truly enjoyed the book - it was heartfelt and had me in all types of moods. Love, love, and envy with some jealousy. Love the gratitude and understanding of the relationship, while honoring your mother. Envious of the sharing and jealous of the short time I had with mine.

~ Anton

Marked by History

I really like the flow of the topics that you’re sharing. It made me think of things that I truly had not given a second thought to.

~ Sarah (ARC Reader)

I was so excited to read it, and then I had to force myself to put it down and not stay up all night reading. But wow, I didn’t know about a lot of the history you shared, which was interesting. But at the same time, it made me think about my own situation as an adopted child and not knowing my own familial medical history.

I love the images and the stories! For folks like me, we love the “behind the scenes” of images/experiences!!! I’m so glad you got Phonte to do an endorsement! I was reading/looking at images, and I was like, “Cathy has really done some wonderful work!”

~ Keischa

The photos are stunning. I can feel the energy from the photos of Dee Dee Bridgewater. Her energy literally jumps off the page at me.

~ Gilbert

You are an excellent storyteller, and you have a great eye.

~ Cornell

Girl…. RebelSoul is absolutely breathtaking!!! Shaun and I both looked at it and were simply in awe.

You, your stories, your work. Simply remarkable.

~ Julia

It takes a person with a good eye to take good shots. People think you point and click… these are incredible. I feel like I’m in front of him (Verdeen White of Earth, Wind & Fire)
